PW200 Turboshaft Engine Fleet: One Million Hours in
Flight!
FARNBOROUGH, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - Jul 20, 2004) -
(Farnborough Air Show)
Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp. (P&WC) recently marked the
1,000,000th operating hour of its PW200 turboshaft engine fleet,
further confirming the engine series' leadership position in the
world light-twin helicopter market.
"This remarkable milestone demonstrates the tremendous inroads
the PW200 engine family has made over the past decade," said Mr.
Alain M. Bellemare, President, P&WC. "It has become a dominant
force in the light-twin helicopter market, capturing roughly 70
per cent of new deliveries in this fast-growing segment,
especially in the law enforcement, emergency medical services and
corporate markets."
Mr. Bellemare noted that PW200 engines are continuing to be
selected by a large majority of operators to power their new
light-twin helicopters. "This ongoing success is being driven by
superior engine performance, low operating costs and P&WC's
unparalleled customer support network," he said.
P&WC introduced the PW200 engine family in the 1990s in response
to demands for multi-role rotary flight. The PW200 series
engines leverage the extraordinary experience of P&WC's legendary
PT6 engine family to offer operators unprecedented levels of
reliability and economy.
The PW200's modular design and only three major rotating
components make it one of the simplest turboshaft engines in its
class. Extensive use of new technology, such as electronic
control, advanced materials and coatings, also provides greater
power and lower fuel consumption combined with low emission and
high reliability.
The PW200 was also ranked first in Pro Pilot's first-ever
Performance Evaluation of Powerplants (PEP) survey conducted.
Current applications of the PW200 series include the Agusta A109E
Power, Bell M427, Eurocopter EC135 P1/P2, MDHI MD 900/902 and the
Kazan Ansat.
P&WC, based in Longueuil, Quebec, is a world leader in aviation
engines powering business, general aviation and regional
aircraft, and helicopters. The company also offers advanced
engines for industrial applications. P&WC's operations and
service network span the globe. P&WC is a subsidiary of United
Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX), a high-technology company
based in Hartford, Connecticut.
