Pratt & Whitney Canada Opens Two Quick Turnaround Heavy
Maintenance (HEMA) Facilities
NEW-ORLEANS, USA-- NBAA 2001, Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp. (P&WC)
has opened an all-new, quick turnaround Heavy Maintenance (HEMA)
Line at its Service Centre facility in St-Hubert, Quebec offering
significantly enhanced service levels to its customer base. A
second facility will be opening in January at the Bridgeport
Service Centre in West Virginia.
The dedicated HEMA facilities are designed to reduce turn-times,
increase efficiency and minimize customers' operating costs. Each
HEMA facility will have a team of 20 specialized experts who will
perform a wide range of Maintenance Manual-type activities,
including hot sections inspections and other heavy maintenance
workscopes. In addition, the Bridgeport, WV initiative will have
fly-in capability and will offer mobile repair teams to be able to
effect repairs in the field at the customer's location. The
Quebec facility is conveniently located in a newly refurbished
building next to P&WC's Repair and Overhaul shop in St-Hubert.
"The new HEMA Line will allow us to perform repairs in a much
quicker fashion," says Denis Parisien, Vice President, Service
Centres, Operations. "We wanted to put ourselves in our
customers' shoes when it comes to engine maintenance and meet
their needs in a fast and responsive manner. Process improvements
will allow us to reduce our turn-times by more than 50 per cent."
The new HEMA Line in St-Hubert was officially opened on September
6 at a ceremony attended by P&WC customers, special guests and
Service Centre employees. It is the latest addition to P&WC's
fast-growing Service Centre Network. The network is composed of
21 facilities spread across six continents. The P&WC aftermarket
now accounts for 54 per cent of the company's annual business
volume.
P&WC, based in Longueuil, Quebec, is a world leader in aviation
engines powering business and regional aircraft and helicopters.
The company also offers advanced engines for industrial
applications. P&WC's operations and service network span the
globe. P&WC is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation
(NYSE: UTX), a high-technology company based in Hartford,
