J. Richard Bertrand was named Vice President, Government Affairs, Pratt & Whitney Canada in 2005.

Before joining Pratt & Whitney Canada, Mr. Bertrand held senior positions at IThink, SHL-Systemhouse, Burson-Marsteller, ECL-Executive Consultants and Ottawa Cablevision. He was also a captain in the Canadian Forces and a United Nations peacekeeper in Cyprus.

Mr. Bertrand earned a bachelor’s degree in science from McGill University in 1964 and an MBA from the University of Ottawa in 1985. He received a Regular Officer Training Plan Scholarship at McGill University and an honorary doctorate from the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management.

Mr. Bertrand was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for community service as well as Cyprus and Peacekeepers’ medals. He has also received a Civic Entrepreneur of the Year award, Bronze Medal as Business Person of the Year (Ottawa), and the Trudeau Medal from the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management.

Mr. Bertrand was chairman of the University of Ottawa’s Board of Governors from 1996 to 2003 and is currently an honorary board member. He has also served on the board of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and is currently a member of the Advisory Council, Telfer School of Management, where he was an adjunct professor in 2003. Bertrand is past chair of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group and vice chairman of the Global Business and Economic Roundtable on Addiction and Mental Health.
