Employee Involvement
In recent years, Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) and its employees have supported more than 150 charitable organizations through initiatives such as the Matching Gift Program and Team Volunteering.
These two programs are designed to encourage employees and retirees to work with organizations as volunteers or make financial contributions.
Matching Gift Program
P&WC has run a Matching Gift Program for more than 25 years. The company matches the amount paid by an employee or retiree to non-profit cultural, educational or environmental institutions. Its objectives consist of encouraging employees to make contributions and dedicating part of its philanthropic budget to organizations that are expressly designated by employees.
Team Volunteering Program
Our Team Volunteering Program aims to encourage our employees and retirees to participate in community-based activities. This program involves creating teams of employees and retirees to become involved voluntarily in community-based work in collaboration with a non-profit organization of their choice. The team and the organizations set the goals and the needs of the project together, as well as the budgetary resources. P&WC then subsidizes part of the costs involved in carrying out these projects.
Examples of team volunteering projects initiated by our employees include:
Envol
Around thirty employees from the P&WC facility in Longueuil put on their volunteering hats and took part in a team volunteering project. They carried out good deeds for Envol, an organization located in South Shore near Montreal, which comes to the aid of young mothers in difficulty by improving their parenting skills and encouraging their reintegration into society and the workplace. Over two days, the volunteers repainted and decorated the activity room, replaced the floor coverings in the creativity room and the daycare room, built a changing room in the organization's shop and refurbished the food section. Now Envol is even more welcoming for the young mothers and their children!

The Friends of Devereaux House
Built in the 1860s by the first settlers, Devereaux House represents an invaluable piece of cultural heritage for residents of Halton Region (Ontario). To preserve the architectural heritage represented by this 19th century farmhouse, 25 employees from P&WC's Mississauga facility offered their support to The Friends of Devereaux House, a non-profit community group which saved the building from demolition. During this team volunteering day in October 2008, they cleared brush from the yard, painted the exterior board and batten, painted ceilings and refinished interior trim and woodwork. As a further encouragement, P&WC made a donation towards the purchase of construction materials. The restored house now serves as a venue for community and social events.
